The remote train station of Manguri is centrally located in South Australia. Lying 42 kilometres from Coober Pedy, Manguri is serviced by The Ghan railway line, but by prior arrangement only. However, it is worth the effort, as the night-time approach to the station is an unforgettable experience, with the train being signalled by bonfires burning in the pitch-black Outback desert. A nightcap is usually served around the bonfire, and there are on-site stargazing sessions given by a trained crew, before passengers are ferried to Coober Pedy. This interesting Outback town is home to some fascinating museums, such as the Umoona Opal Mine and Museum and The Old Timers Mine, a historic opal mine which features hand-dug tunnels.
